What is a road guided day with Velodrom like?
Discover what a guided day of road cycling in Girona is like
Wake up: 7:00am
Waking up to the tranquility of Girona, I prepare for the day of guiding ahead. Starting the day with a nutritious breakfast is key for fuelling your body for the day ahead. I prepare a bowl of overnight oats topped with fresh fruits and enjoy it with a freshly brewed espresso (of course). Cyclists cannot live without coffee, or at least I cannot!
Following breakfast, I prepare my bicycle and make sure everything is in order to avoid issues during the ride. I perform a few activation exercises to engage my muscles and ensure they are functioning correctly for the ride ahead.
MEETING AT THE WORKSHOP
8:00: Rolling out
We meet at the Velodrom work shop to prepare the bicycles prior to setting off on the 100km route. The weather pleasantly greats us as we navigate through the small streets of Girona and towards the Vall de La Llémena. A route of 100km of pure bliss. We firstly begin a gradually inclining road through to Sant Gregori, continuing towards the Vall de La Llémena taking, before climbing the 1.5km Les Serres climb. We follow the river before taking a turn in Angles and taking on the stunning 24km St Hilari climb, which meanders up through the valley at a pleasant 3% average. This climb is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant climbs in the area, and is encompassed by stunning landscape. We climb at a steady rhythm purely enjoying each other's company and riding along the beautiful scenic roads.
10:00am: Refreshment stop
Upon reaching the summit of the climb in St Hilari, we are due for a water refill and snack stop to keep us hydrated and fuelled for the remainder of the ride. There is a fresh water fountain providing us with the opportunity to refill with fresh water from the Les Guilleries mountains.
10:30: Route back to Girona
After refuelling the glycogen stores and making sure we are hydrated, we continue the route back towards Girona. We descend the beautiful winding road to Santa Coloma and take on the stunning views of the Montseny Mountains in the distance. We are both satisfied to descend for 15km, having clocked up many metres of climbing earlier on in the route. The final part of the route follows some flowing backroads passing by the tranquil village of Brunyola and before rolling back into Girona. A freshly brewed coffee at Espresso Mafia awaits-the perfect way to finish off a great day on the bike.
